You must be joking: Cities as forces for good in the environment

The city as a force for Good is not the popular image of urban life. “Bull in a china shop” is probably nearer to the mark. Gene Odum, celebrated systems ecologist, considered cities as parasitic ecosystems. Here is a seminar seeking to overturn the popular image of the city: that the bull might be shod with padded trainers and imbued with intelligence and deftness of metaphorical movement about the watershed in which it sits — even capable of expanding the china shop’s business.
